Now all I have to do is figure out a way to leave work early so I can make the sale….

I love this spread even more now, it’s so surreal. The unique shading character-to-character is so apparent, I can’t get over how thoughtful these pages are. More people need to see your uncolored pages, they’re such a joy to pour over.

Still adoring Detective, by the way.

I see this and yearn for a fully penciled/painted issue.

Black and White edition of the first trade would be awesome.

Yes it would.

Amazing.

You are doing the most spectacular work in contemporary comics with this book.

I predict industry awards and I mean the important ones.

Beautiful.

best,

Karl

J3 – Any idea if DC will be doing any posters or prints of/from these issues? Or t-shirts, etc?

Can’t wait for the sale today. Looking forward to it.

Hello Pam
At this point I have no idea about any sort of merchandising plans. I’m thinking decisions of this nature might be on hold in light of recent news. As soon as I know anything about collectables being made available I will post info here.

Thanks!

You’ve probably been asked this before, so I apologize ahead of time, but do rely on photo reference for your work, mainly from your head, or a mixture of the two? It seems so many artists are really heavy on the photo reference lately and I didn’t know if that is a path you follow as well.

Your art continues to blow me away. Thank you for posting all of this.

Comment by Chris 09.12.09 @ 10:31 am

Hey there Chris
The only time I ever use photo reference is for things I haven’t drawn before. But whence I get used to something I don’t need the reference. This mainly applies to objects or locations when called for. For the rest of it I use my imagination and pay attention to what things looks like, particularly with people. I really like the challenge of making things up and creating the illusion that it was taken from something real.

Hi JH, really enjoy your work…and Detective leaves me speechless.

Looking at purchasing a piece of your art. Roughly what are the dimensions of a single or double page?

Cheers, Craig

Comment by Craig 09.14.09 @ 5:54 am

That just makes me respect your art even more. Absolutely amazing.

Comment by Chris 09.14.09 @ 7:17 am

Hey there Craig
Thank you very much. Dimensions for a single page is roughly 11 1/2 x 17, a double is roughly 22 x 17
